The Official Website of Tony Kenealy, Writer
Welcome to Shadows and Spacesuits. This is my official writer's home on the web. I have recently done some redecorating, and I hope you like it.
If you are remotely interested in knowing more about me...
I was born in 1965 in the United Kingdom, growing up on a diet of Gerry Anderson, Doctor Who, Marvel and DC comics, so much TV SciFi, and a lot of reading. Oh, and a diet of fish finger sandwiches. I started writing as a teenager, but as with all dreams at that age, real life rather got in the way and pushed them aside.
In 1997, I moved ot California. Why someone who does not surf or sit on the beach and will turn a lobster pink if out in the sun for more than 15 minutes would chose to live in Southern California I am not sure but lifes takes you where you need to go. At this time, the writing bug started to nibble its way to the surface again.
I have been lucky to meet so many writers on my journey who have been inspirational to me but I will not embarass them by naming names.
I have been a freelance writer in the tabletop miniature and role-playing games arena for the past 25 years. I have written RPG adventures, background fiction for world-building, and non-fiction articles, in multiple genres from 1930s pulp and sci-fi, to Witch Hunters in the late 1600s in London, post-apocalyptic Mad Max style, and far future earth. I have been very lucky to work in these different genres, which keeps work exciting.
I have always believed that the background and the story in any game should be as important as the game itself. Pay attention to these, get them right, and the game works. When I play video games (I have been a player on the PlayStation since the PS One), I want to know the story, the background, and why the characters are doing what they are doing. It is important to me, and that is why I got into writing. I have many more stories to tell.
I have been involved in tabletop game development as well as writing work a co-owner of Aberrant with the Rezolution: A Dark Tomorrow and Warlands range.
I have also written non-fiction articles on differing topics such as plastic kit modeling and collecting, Doctor Who at Comic-con and my expereinces growing up with Doctor Who.
I am always open to new opportunites so if you want to get hold of me please email me at tony@tonykenealy.com.
